Unlike the other holiday destinations of Queensland, Brisbane isn\’t an obvious place to holiday. However, there are, many reasons to stay in Brisbane Australia.

People visit Brisbane for business trips, on conferences or conventions, as a gateway to other Queensland or Australian holiday destinations, for romantic weekends away, to catch up on some culture (visiting the Southbank Art Galleries, Musuems, Ballet, Opera or theatrical productions), attend concerts (Brisbane is on the circuit for many big name artists from Australia and around the world), or one of the Queensland capital\’s big events like the International Tennis or Riverfire.

Brisbane is an excellent place to base yourself if you want to do some of the big city activities whilst still being able to enjoy other parts of South East Queensland such as visit the Gold Coast theme parks or Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast or visit the almost idyllic Moreton Bay islands (Tangalooma, Stradbroke Island, Moreton Island and many more).

How To Get To Brisbane Australia?

Obviously, if you are coming from overseas there is usually only one way to get to Brisbane and that is by flying into Brisbane Airport. Some  visitors come through the Brisbane Cruise Terminal which often has very impressive cruise liners from all over the world.

Don\’t forget if you are visiting Australia from overseas you will need an Australian Visa.

The most common ways to travel to Brisbane from other cities and towns in Australia are by flying into Brisbane Airport, by train (country and interstate trains), by country and interstate buses such as the Greyhound or AAT buses or by driving yourself.

Once in Brisbane there are a variety of ways to get around, and if you plan to spend anytime in and around the city or Southbank areas become  familiar with the local transport options, which are much easier and often less expensive than driving and trying to find a parking spot! Within the city there is a great infrastructure of buses, trains and river ferries (River Cats) to ferry you around the sights of Brisbane City.

If you plan to see sights outside of Brisbane city then hiring a car is easy either from the airport when you arrive or from various locations around Brisbane. If you prefer to be directed and informed as you travel around there are many day trips and tours that will pick you up from your accommodation and whisk you away for your days activities and sightseeing.

Where To Stay in Brisbane Australia?

The most popular places to stay in Brisbane are the city areas, Southbank and Kangaroo Point which have a wide range of hotels, backpacker and serviced apartment style accommodation. Brisbane Airport didn\’t used to have much accommodation close by, but since late 2010 there are now hotel options much closer to the airport.

In the outer suburbs you can also find bed and breakfast and further afield even farmstay accommodation.
