During the middle of May it is the start of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival season, with racing at both Doomben and Eagle Farm race tracks.

There is lots of activity both on and off the field during the 5 week season and plenty of opportunity to check out the horse racing, the fashions or just the entertainment of it all.

Typical Weather
A fairly dry month with an average of 6 rainy days per month and average rainfall of 64mm. The temperatures during May are pleasant during the day and evening, though by the end of the month it is turning cooler and days are getting shorter at both ends as we head towards winter.

# - I have quoted Gold Coast sea temperature because the data I found for Brisbane was a bit difficult to interpret. Moreton Bay can have significantly different temperatures than the general ocean temperatures and realistically you don't come to Brisbane for the beach, but you do go to Gold and Sunshine Coasts for that. This is just an indication.
